At Grabembythe Shorthairs, our approach to training German Shorthaired Pointers is built on a foundation of respect, consistency, and a deep understanding of the breed's natural instincts. We believe that a well-trained dog is not just a hunting partner, but a cherished member of the family.
Obedience is paramount
For us, obedience is the cornerstone of all training. Before we even think about field work, our German Shorthaired Pointers learn to respond reliably to commands. This strong foundation ensures their safety, builds their confidence, and strengthens their bond with us. It's the key to a harmonious life both in the home and out in the field.
Mastering the field
Once obedience is established, we hone in on developing their innate hunting abilities. Finding birds, holding a steady point, honoring another dog's point, and retrieving are all critical aspects of their training. We utilize a precise regimen, including raising pigeons for training purposes and employing remote launchers and collars five to six times a week to simulate real-world hunting scenarios effectively.
